Mark Your Calendars for the 75th Annual Illinois Classical Conference
Planning for 2012 meeting of the Illinois Classical Conference – a meeting which will mark our organization’s 75th anniversary -- is well underway. The University of Chicago will provide the setting for this year’s conference, which will be held over the Columbus Day weekend, October 5-7, 2012.
The site couldn’t be more appropriate: U of C was, along with Northwestern and Loyola Universities, one of the three founding forces driving the formation, growth, and development of our organization. And the site of our meeting couldn’t be more exciting. Beyond our conference proper, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the wonderfully renovated Oriental Institute, the Smart Museum of Art, and the world-famous U of C campus itself.
Call for papers
Along with our 75th Anniversary Committee (Alice Mulberry, Laurie Jolicoeur, and William Napiwocki), our vice presidents, Jim Chochola and Brian Tibbets have been working since the close of last year’s conference to plan our 2012 program, and have lined up an outstanding keynote speaker for our meeting: Prof. Shadi Bartsch-Zimmer, the Helen A. Regenstein Distinguished Service Professor in Classics at the University of Chicago.
If you would like to deliver a paper at this year’s conference, you’re invited to submit your ideas to Jim and Brian now. Just e-mail a précis of the paper you’d like to present to jwchochola@yahoo.com or brian.tibbets@gmail.com.
We hope you’ll join us!
As we mark this milestone, we’re hoping to see growth in conference participation from our current and new members. There’s much to be gained from the presentations, the panel and forum discussions, and, of course, the fellowship with colleagues.
We hope you’ll consider taking part in the 2012 program!
